Val Hodge Trophy Race
2013 winners Nouannie
The inaugural Val Hodge Trophy Race took place on Sunday 24th February 2013 and was won by RYCV's very own all-girl team Nouannie (pictured). Read all about their win in this article.
Open to boats helmed by a female, the trophy is named in honour of Val Hodge, RYCV's first female skipper.
Val joined the club in 1985 with her husband Arthur. When Arthur became busy with his Club Captain duties, Val took over as skipper on their boat - becoming Royals' first female helm. A lot has changed since then! Val and Arthur now live in Queensland - and there is a lot more opportunity for women to get on the water!

The Val Hodge Trophy Race - as well as having its own trophy and prizes - is also Race 2 in the Port Phillip Women's Championship Series (PPWCS), a new series for female sailors that combines five races run by different clubs into one annual championship trophy.
